Iceland's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from the previous month in March, data released by Statistics Iceland showed Wednesday.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate advanced to 7.5 percent in March from 7.1 percent in February. In March 2011, the jobless rate was 7.3 percent.
The number of unemployed increased to 13,500 in March from 12,800 in February. In February 2011, there were 13,100 unemployed persons in Iceland.
On an unadjusted basis also the unemployment rate was 7.5 percent in March, which was however broadly unchanged from the unadjusted figure for the same month last year.
At the same time, the employment rate edged up to 74.6 percent in March from 74.4 percent in February, but decreased from 75 percent recorded in March 2011. There were 167,800 employed persons in Iceland in March, down from 168,100 recorded in February.
