Senior US congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who is an outspoken critic of the Afghan government headed by President Hamid Karzai, was denied entry to Afghanistan at the weekend, reports say.

Republican chairman of the House foreign affairs subcommittee on oversight and investigation, Rohrabacher was leading a delegation to Afghanistan on Sunday, when he was refused a visa and was prevented from boarding a flight to Kabul from Dubai.

Karzai Reportedly sent a message to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton saying that Rohrabacher would not be welcome in Afghanistan. Clinton conveyed it to the congressman, who cut his travel halfway through on her advise.

The latest incident that strains US-Karzai ties comes barely a month ahead of the NATO summit in Chicago, which is scheduled to discuss the future of Afghanistan.
