In an effort to ensure the proper disposal of unwanted or expired prescription drugs, the Drug Enforcement Agency has announced that Saturday, April 28 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The DEA is partnering with local officials to set up locations where individuals can return their expired or unwanted drugs for safe discarding with no questions asked.
Officials say that it is a great way to clean out the medicine cabinet while making the home safer in the process.
"Americans that participated in the DEA's third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on October 29, 2011, turned in more than 377,086 pounds (188.5 tons) of unwanted or expired medications for safe and proper disposal at the 5,327 take-back sites that were available in all 50 states and U.S. territories," the DEA noted on its website.
