Italian Wage Growth Slows To 27-Month Low

Hourly wages of Italian employees increased at the slowest pace in more than two years in March, data released by statistical office Istat showed Tuesday.

The hourly wage index increased 1.2 percent on an annual basis in March, slower than the 1.4 percent growth recorded in February. The latest growth was the slowest since January 2010.

Wages in the agricultural sector remained unchanged year-on-year, while earnings in industries rose 2.3 percent during the month. In the public sector, hourly wages rose 1.7 percent annually, while in the public sector they remained unchanged in March.

On a monthly basis, hourly wages remained unchanged for the second consecutive month in March. In the three months ended March, wages increased 1.3 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier.

Italy's EU harmonized inflation accelerated to 3.8 percent in March from 3.4 percent in February. The consumer price inflation was 3.3 percent.
