Alt-metal bands System of a Down and Deftones will head out on tour together this summer. SOAD announced the news last week by posting pictures of bassist Shavo Odadjian holding in a Deftones backstage pass laminate.

The two bands will begin the tour in Philadelphia on August 2 and then move on to eight other cities before wrapping up on August 15 in Chicago.

This will be the first extended tour for System Of A Down since re-uniting last year. The band has not put out an album since 2005's Hypnotize, but frontman Serj Tankian will release his third solo effort, Harakiri, on July 10 on Reprise Records/Serjical Strike.

Meanwhile, Deftones are set to release their seventh album later this year. They are currently at work on the album in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Their previous album was 2010's Diamond Eyes.
