Willie Nelson now has a statue of himself on display for all to see in Austin, Texas. The 8-foot statue was unveiled on Friday (April 20) in front of Moody Theater, where the Austin City Limits Studio is now located.
Nelson sang his song "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die" to commemorate the event. That particular song was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the date of the ceremony and also the time it was scheduled (also, 4:20), which is widely celebrated by marijuana advocates like Nelson.
The statue was created by Philadelphia sculptor Clete Shields. He said that it was intended to portray "a timeless Willie, an ageless Willie."
Many of Nelson's friends were on hand to see the statue's unveiling, including fellow singer-songwriter, Kris Kristofferson.
