Smiths Reunion Rumors Shot Down By Band

The rumors of a Smiths reunion are apparently false, despite the reports that emerged Thursday on Music-news.co.uk.

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr denied the rumors via his Facebook page: "The rumour of The Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening."

The original story suggested that frontman Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr had been in talks with a "well-known" promoter about reuniting.

U.K. music magazine NME has claimed to have received a denial from within the music industry, writing on Twitter, "There's no truth to the Smiths reunion rumours. A highly-placed source in Britain's live music industry, along with others close to the band, denied the rumours when contacted by NME."

Former drummer Mike Joyce also denied the rumors on his Internet radio show on Beatwolf Radio. The Smiths split in 1987 when Marr left the band. The U.K. group has been the subject of endless reunion rumors since the split.
