A monthly gauge of US online job recruitment activity increased in April, a report from Monster Worldwide Inc showed on Friday.

The Monster employment index rose 2 percent month-on-month to 146 in April, while rising 1 percent over the past 12 months. However, the month-on-month increase was more modest than usually recorded at this time of the year, according to Monster.

Transportation and warehousing continued to outpace all industries, while retail trade weakened.
