Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday said the country is headed for disaster if presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney does not win the White House in November.
"God help us if he doesn't win," Romney said in an interview on Fox News. Perry left the Republican presidential field this past winter, and threw his support behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. When Gingrich left the race himself this week, Perry endorsed Romney, the all-but-certain nominee.
Perry said bankruptcy and international shame await the country if President Barack Obama is re-elected.
"Four more years of Barack Obama, when you look at the debt that is on the future generations, when you look at what he is talking about doing from the standpoint of coming in and telling states how to run their business, I mean this isn't even in the ballpark of close," Perry continued.
"Mitt Romney has to win this presidential election in November of 2012 or our country truly is going to be on the precipice of bankruptcy and international affairs that I will suggest to you none of us are going to like."
Perry also suggested during the interview that his own presidential ambitions may not be over, saying that his 2012 campaign "could be" preparation for a bid in 2016.
