Diamond Pet Foods continues to make headlines as the number of products being recalled keeps growing.
Saturday, the company announced that it is expanding its earlier recalls to include the following brands of dry pet food formulas manufactured in the Gaston, South Carolina facility between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The recalled brands include:
* Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul * Country Value * Diamond * Diamond Naturals * Premium Edge * Professional * 4Health * Taste of the Wild
The above affected brands bear the production codes that will have a number "2" or a "3" in the 9th position and the letter "X" in the 10th or 11th position, and best-before dates of December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013, the company said in a statement.
The recalled products were distributed to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Canada.
Also included in the recall are the following Kirkland Signature products with the best-before dates of December 9, 2012 through January 31, 2013 namely,
* Kirkland Signature Super Premium Adult Dog Lamb, Rice & Vegetable Formula * Kirkland Signature Super Premium Adult Dog Chicken, Rice & Vegetable Formula * Kirkland Signature Super Premium Mature Dog Chicken, Rice & Egg Formula * Kirkland Signature Super Premium Healthy Weight Dog Formulated with Chicken & Vegetables * Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Cat Chicken & Rice Formula * Kirkland Signature Super Premium Healthy Weight Cat Formula * Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Formula for Dogs
The recalled Kirkland Signature products were distributed in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Canada and Puerto Rico.
On April 6, Diamond Pet Foods voluntarily recalled one formula of Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice due to potential contamination with Salmonella. Later, on April 26, the company expanded its voluntary recall to include one production run and four production codes of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Adult Light formula dry dog food, and acknowledged that one bag of the product tested positive for Salmonella. One more product was added to the list of recalled products on April 30 due to the presence of Salmonella namely, Diamond Puppy Formula.
The multiple brands of dry pet food produced by Diamond Pet Foods have been linked to some of the human Salmonella infections. As of May 3, a total of 14 individuals infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Infantis have been reported from 9 states. Five people were hospitalized, according to the CDC.
