Jason Aldean will star on the new TV talent contest, Opening Act, in which he, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, Mary J. Blige and another producer will search the internet for the next big singing act.
The winners of the contest will get to open for established acts — including Aldean, Mary J., Rod Stewart and LMFAO — as they tour the country. But first they'll have to go to "performance boot camp" in order to become prepared for the opportunity.
Lythgoe says he is certain that potential talent is out there just waiting to be tapped.
"There is an extraordinary amount of untapped talent out there," he said. "But if you don't know the right people or have the right connections, you may never be discovered. With Opening Act, we are democratizing a notoriously impossible process."
Opening act premieres July 9 on E!
