Continuing its belligerency, North Korea has accused the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) of having gone with the "hostile U.S. policies" by issuing a statement urging the North to refrain from further provocative acts, including nuclear tests.
"The statement is a significantly illegal act that violates the country's sovereignty and rights to have nuclear and space programs for peaceful purposes," a spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
Quoting the spokesman, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the country stressed its interest in the future development of nuclear arms and missiles by saying that it would protect its sovereignty by using nuclear deterrence and strongly promote the peaceful development of space and the growth of the nuclear industry.
The U.N. decided to impose new sanctions against the North after a UNSC presidential statement was adopted on April 16.
