Earnings Watch For May 7 (CTSH, DISH, SYY, EA, TSN)

Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. (CTSH: Quote) is expected to report results for the first quarter. The IT, consulting, and BPO services provider is expected to earn $0.79 per share on revenues of $1.71 billion. In the year-ago quarter, the company reported earnings of $0.67 per share on revenues of $1.37 billion. The stock closed Friday at $69.66. (The stock up about 20% in Q1; MA(50)- $74.04; MA(100)- $71.40; 52-wk H/L $78.75/$53.54)

Satellite television provider Dish Network Corp. (DISH: Quote) is due to post first-quarter results. The company is expected to record earnings of $0.70 per share compared to $1.22 per share last year, on revenues of $3.62 billion. Shares of DISH closed Friday's trade at $31.31. (The stock rose around 16% in Q1; MA(50)- $31.51; MA(100)- $29.93; 52-wk H/L $35.64/$20.89)

Sysco Corp. (SYY: Quote) is scheduled to report third-quarter results. Quarterly earnings of the food-distribution giant are expected to decline to $0.43 per share from $0.46 per share in the same quarter a year earlier. Also, the company is anticipated to generate revenues of $10.45 billion, up from $9.76 billion recorded a year ago. SYY closed Friday's session at $27.90. (The stock gained nearly 3% in Q3; MA(50)- $29.44; MA(100)- $29.48; 52-wk H/L $32.76/$25.09)

Video-game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. (EA: Quote) is slated to report results for the fourth quarter. The company is expected to report a profit of $0.16 per share versus $0.25 per share last year, with revenues estimated at $958.54 million. The stock closed Friday's regular trade at $15.12. (The stock declined almost 20% in Q4; MA(50)- $16.25; MA(100)- $17.65; 52-wk H/L $26.13/$14.48)

Tyson Foods Inc. (TSN: Quote) will post its second-quarter results today. Earnings and revenue for the quarter are expected to be $0.39 per share and $8.49 billion respectively. In the previous year, the meat products producer earned $0.42 per share on revenues of $8 billion. On Friday, TSN closed trade at $18.04. (The stock down about 7% in Q2; MA(50)- $18.87; MA(100)- $19.26; 52-wk H/L $21.06/$15.60)

Avis Budget Group, Inc. (CAR), Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (LPX), PetMed Express Inc. (PETS), TravelCenters of America LLC (TA), Pitney Bowes Inc. (PBI) and Rackspace Hosting, Inc. (RAX) are also expected to report their results today.

Stocks moved sharply higher over the course of the trading day on Friday, more than offsetting the weakness seen on Thursday. In a reversal from the previous session, the markets benefited from some upbeat U.S. economic data as well as comments from a Federal Reserve official. The major averages saw further upside going into the close, with the Dow and the S&P 500 reaching new record highs. As the IRS targeting scandal continues to make headlines, animal-protection charity People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, claims that conservative groups are not the only ones that have faced increased scrutiny from the agency. While the IRS targeting scandal has taken center stage on Capitol Hill on Friday, the results of a new Gallup poll showed that the American public's interest in the story is comparatively low based on historical measures. The poll showed that 54 percent of Americans are following the news that the IRS targeted conservative groups for greater scrutiny "very" or "somewhat" closely.
