Rebecca Hall has signed on for the lead female part in the upcoming "Iron Man 3." Hall will play a scientist who helps create Extremis, a weaponized form of nanotechnology which ends up in the hands of terrorists.

Jessica Chastain was initially pegged for the role, but she announced on her Facebook page that conflicts had arisen which prevented the eventuality:

"My schedule is jammed packed, and I can't fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I'm so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there'll be another Marvel film in my future."

Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle return in the third iteration of the franchise. Guy Pearce has been added, and Ben Kingsley will star in the lead villain role.
