Latvia's merchandise trade deficit decreased modestly from the previous month in March, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Bureau showed Friday.
The trade deficit decreased to LVL150.4 million in March from LVL154.3 million in February. In March 2011, the trade balance was a deficit of LVL149.7 million.
Export of goods increased 11.6 percent sequentially to LVL546.1 million in March. Compared to March 2011, shipments increased 10.3 percent during the month.
Imports advanced 8.2 percent month-on-month to LVL696.5 million during the month. Year-on-year, total arrivals advanced 8 percent in March.
In the January-March period, the value of exports increased 13 percent from the same period a year earlier, while imports advanced 17.7 percent.
