Beastie Boys Sued Day Before Adam Yauch's Death

Beastie Boys Sued Day Before Adam Yauch's Death

The Beastie Boys were sued by record label Tuf America (Thursday, May 4) which alleges that the Boys sampled an artist on their roster without acknowledgment. A day later, Adam Yauch would pass of cancer.

Tuf America says that the Boys sampled Trouble Funk's tracks, "Say What" and "Drop the Bomb," on four tracks: "Shadrach" and "Car Thief," (from Paul's Boutique); and, "The New Style" and "Hold It, Now Hit It" (from Licensed to Ill).

An attorney for the label, apologized for the timing of the suit and says the two events were not related (via E! News):

"I was very sorry to hear of Adam Yauch's untimely passing, and can assure you that the unfortunate timing of the filing of Tuf America's complaint had nothing to do with his health. On behalf of myself and Tuf America, I offer our condolences to Adam's family, friends and fans."
