No Permit And No Performance For Gaga In Indonesia

Lady Gaga has failed to obtain the necessary permit to perform in Indonesia next month. The local authorities refused to issue the permit due to security concerns after three Islamic groups and conservative politicians took issue with her "vulgar" stage performances, demanding that the June 3 concert not be allowed to happen.

A national police spokesman said by telephone in a conference call with Western media that the security concerns were too great to grant the permit.

"She's a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil's child and that she will spread satanic teaching," said Salim Alatas, the Jakarta head of hardline Islamic Defender Front (FPI) said according to CNBC. "This is dangerous."

The show was set to be Gaga's biggest concert on her Asian tour. More than 30,000 concert tickets from a total of 40,000 tickets had been sold, said the Jakarta Post newspaper.

Other female performers from the West, including Beyoncé and Fergie, have faced similar opposition when they have made their way to the country.
