At least one person has been killed and several others injured after a powerful bomb exploded in front of a school in the southern Italian city of Brindisi, local media reports citing officials said Saturday.
The bomb reportedly exploded as students were arriving at the Francesca Morvillo Falcone vocational school by about 8 am local time. The lone fatality in the explosion was said to be girl, who is yet to be officially identified.
At least five other students were injured in the explosion. Officials have expressed fears that the death toll in the incident may rise further as two of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.
Initial reports suggested that the explosive devices were placed inside backpacks left outside the school gate. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
