Arcade Fire threw their weight behind the ongoing student protests in Montreal during their recent appearance on Saturday Night Live. The rockers joined guest host Mick Jagger for a three-song set and sported red patches, a symbol of the uprising.

The student demonstrations are in opposition to tuition hikes in universities as well as Bill 78, a measure that would give the government greater authority to quell protests.

At the very hour Arcade Fire was appearing on SNL students in Montreal were burning plastic furniture and road cones in a busy section of the city's night club district. Local authorities claim they made 60 arrests.

Filmmaker Michael Moore hit Twitter to praise the students:

"Canadians are in revolt in Quebec over new gov't law limiting democratic rights. No news of it in US press. Their uprising is inspiring #ggi."
