Japan's supermarket sales dropped 1.9 percent in April from a year ago, the Japan Chain Stores Association said Tuesday. The decline follows a 2.4 percent decrease in March.
Before adjustment, store sales were down 2.3 percent annually.
Nonetheless, the government raised its economic view last week. The Cabinet Office also lifted the assessment of consumer spending and said private consumption is increasing at a moderate pace.
