Confidence among Dutch households deteriorated in May, after improving in the previous month, data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Tuesday.
The consumer confidence index dropped to -38 in May From -32 in April. In March, the reading was -39.
Households were slightly less pessimistic about their current personal finances compared to a year earlier, with the relevant indicator edging up to -22 in May from -23 in April.
Meanwhile, consumers expectations for their financial situation in the next twelve months turned more pessimistic during the month, with the corresponding sub-index falling to -25 from -15 in April.
The measure of Dutch households' views of the country's present economic situation compared to 12 months earlier turned more downbeat in May. The relevant indicator decreased to -75 in May from -67 in April, while the sub-index that gauges consumers' expectations for the Dutch economy in the coming months fell sharply to -48 from -39, data showed.
