Turkey May Capacity Utilization Stable, Industrial Confidence Weakens

Capacity utilization in the Turkish manufacturing sector remained stable in May, data released by the central bank showed Thursday.

The capacity utilization rate remained unchanged from the previous month at 74.7 percent in May. In March, the capacity utilization rate was 73.1 percent.

Capacity utilization in the consumer goods industry edged down to 72.5 percent in May from 72.9 percent in April, while capacity utilization in the intermediate goods industry rose to 77.2 percent from 76.4 percent. The capacity utilization rate in the investment goods industry was 73.5 percent in May, down from 73.8 percent recorded in April.

Separately, the agency said industrial confidence in Turkey decreased in May, with the real sector confidence index dropping to 113.8 percent from 116 percent in April. The indicator of respondents' views of the general business situation decreased to 106.8 from 110.3 in the previous month.
