Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner of the eleventh season of "American Idol" Wednesday night. The 21-year-old beat out runner-up Jessica Sanchez and is the fifth male in a row to claim the title.
After Phillips was announced as the winner, he broke down in tears and performed his new single, "Home."
"I wasn't thinking about anything, not even the song," he told reporters backstage after the show. "I wasn't really wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the whole journey and how far all of us have come, and how we've made it. It's so overwhelming."
The winner was announced after a record breaking 132 million votes were made by viewers.
