An extra from the film "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" who was badly injured while on the set has been awarded $18.5 million in a settlement by a Chicago area judge. Gabriella Cedillo, an aspiring actress, was driving a car in a scene when a poorly welded cable snapped, smashing through her vehicle.

Cedillo suffered severe head trauma and was airlifted to a hospital where she received emergency brain surgery. According to her legal team the film's producers, Paramount and Dreamworks, were well aware of the unsafe conditions.

"I think they were well aware of what was going on out there," said Cedillo's lawyer, Todd Smith. "They were actually announcing on the radio, that, watch out for the debris. The people were driving around, apparently, trying to dodge debris as they drove along."

He added: "She will be taken care of. I wouldn't have resolved this case if I didn't think so."
