A new smartphone app called Sidecar is turning the app world's attention back to the good old fashioned phone call. The app, a collaboration from former Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser and former Microsoft programmer Rob Williams, is free and the pair spoke on it's potential with Wire.com on May 22.
"In smartphones, all the innovation so far has been in data," says Williams. "We want to let you use the capabilities of your phone into the calling experience."
The new app will allow users a selection of features to use during a phone call including the app's hallmark feature "See What I See." This uses the phone's reverse camera to give a view of a user's surroundings.
Williams adds that simplicity is the key, noting: "The moment the person has to use two hands on the phone, it's not for a phone call," says Williams.
Sidecar is currently available through the Google Play Store
