Guitarist Earl Slick, best known for having played with David Bowie, John Lennon and the New York Dolls, was one of the passengers in a car that burst into flames while driving in Montclair, New Jersey on Saturday, May 19. He was uninjured in the blaze.
Slick, real name Frank Madeloni, was riding in the Shelby Cobra sports car owned by a local surgeon named Dr. Jonathan Weiswasser. According to the Montclair Fire Department the car's engine caught fire at about 2:40 p.m. when they were driving near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Porter Place.
The rocker was in Montclair to give a performance alongside a group of teenagers as part of a School of Rock camp. He held two rehearsals before the "British Invasion" show, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 20.
