Former David Bowie/Tin Machine guitarist Reeves Gabrels has joined The Cure for the band's summer festival tour. Gabrels made his debut with The Cure at the PinkPop 2012 festival in Holland on May 26.

Gabrels has worked with The Cure before on several Cure tracks, including "Wrong Number" from their 1997 Galore singles compilation and "Sign From God." Cure frontman Robert Smith also co-wrote the song "Yesterday's Gone" with Gabrels for his solo album Ulysses.

The Cure have not indicated whether or not Gabrels role in the band will take on a more long-term role. Regardless, this has been a busy year for Gabrels who also just released the self-titled album by Sonic Mining Company, a collaboration with bassist Frank Swart (Norah Jones, Patty Griffin, Morphine) and drummer Adam Abrashoff (Funkwrench, SIMO).
