The National has composed and recorded a song, "The Rains of Castamere," to be featured on the season two soundtrack of HBO's hit series, Game of Thrones.

George R.R. Martin, who wrote the books upon which the program is based, wrote the lyrics to the song, which detail Tywin Lannister's overwhelming victory over House Reyne during the Reyne-Tarbeck Rebellion.

Front man Matt Berninger, speaking with Bangstyle.com, says the song is intended to exemplify the "violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's noble families for control of the Iron Throne."

The National currently have two tour dates listed for this summer: June 17 at Eindhoven, Netherland's Rabobank Grote Zaal; and July 6 at Paris, France's Salle Pleyel.

The band's latest LP will likely get a 2013 release.
