In late May, Lady Gaga tweeted that she wanted to purchase a fake Rolex from a street market in Bangkok, Thailand—a claim that has angered Thai officials.
"I just landed in Bangkok baby! Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy a fake rolex," the May 23rd tweet read.
An official with the Ministry of Intellectual Property says that the comments were unhelpful to U.S./Thai relations, particularly because of the U.S.'s stance on intellectual property vis-à-vis smaller nations.
Officials at the U.S. embassy in Bangkok did not comment on the comments.
A day later Gaga performed for 50,000 of her fans in the Thai capital. Gaga is currently on the Asian leg of her Born This Way Ball Tour.
