Public sector equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., or BHEL, said National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd., or NTPC, had placed a major order for Rs.1,143 crore for supply and installation of the main plant package for a power project in Madhya Pradesh, involving one thermal power generating unit of 500 MW.
The contract envisages setting up a 1 x 500 MW thermal power generating unit at NTPC's Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh.
BHEL's scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of steam generators and steam turbine generators along with associated auxiliaries and controls and instrumentation.
On commissioning of the unit, 12 million units of electricity will be added to the grid of the power deficit state, every day, the company said.
With the commissioning of this unit, the cumulative generating capacity of the power station will be enhanced to 4,760 MW, making it India's largest power generating station.
Equipment for the project will be manufactured at BHEL's Tiruchi, Ranipet, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Bhopal plants, while the company;s Power Sector - Western Region will be responsible for erection and commissioning of the equipment.
