U.S. online recruitment activity strengthened further in May, data from Monster Worldwide showed Friday.

The Monster employment index rose 3 percent annually, underpinned by robust recruitment growth in transportation and warehousing. The index edged up to 147 from146 in April.

However, educational services, utilities, and public administration register double-digit negative growth in May. Among the metro markets tracked by the indicator, Detroit gained notable momentum, while Chicago eased.

The Monster employment index is a monthly gauge of U.S. online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career web sites and online job listings.
