Japanese automobile sales increased for a ninth consecutive month in May, data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association showed Friday.
Auto sales surged 66 percent year-on-year to 236,366 units in May. The rate of increase, however, was weaker than the 92 percent growth recorded in April, when the number of registered vehicle sales was 208,977 units.
Data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association on Thursday revealed that automobile production rose for a seventh consecutive month, reaching a total of 799,474 units in April. This was 173.8 percent higher than last year.
