Italy's unemployment rate increased to its highest level in more than eight years in April, data released by the statistical office ISTAT showed Friday.
The jobless rate rose to 10.2 percent from 10.1 percent in March, which was revised from 9.8 percent. The latest figure is the highest since 2004, according to the time series data provided in the agency's website.
The unemployment rate has been steadily rising since November and entered double-digits in March. The youth unemployment rate, meanwhile, fell to 35.2 percent in April from a record high 35.9 percent.
The number of unemployed totaled 2.615 million, rising by 38,000 from March and by 621,000 from a year ago.
