Germany's total exports rose 5.8 percent year-on-year to EUR 276 billion in the first quarter, the Federal Statistical Office said Friday.
Exports to euro area rose 0.9 percent annually to EUR 107.4 billion. Shipment to 26 European Union members increased 2.2 percent from a year earlier to EUR 161.2 billion.
There were increases in German shipments to France, the Netherlands and Austria. At the same time, decreases were observed for exports to some southern euro area countries such as Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece.
