The upcoming issue of DC Comics' "Earth 2" series will feature a gay Alan Scott, a.k.a. The Green Lantern. The series re-introduces the Lantern as a young media mogul and member of the Justice Society of America.
"He's going to be the leader of the team, this dynamic hero, he'll do anything to save people, the bravest man on the planet. Why not just make him gay as well?" "Earth 2" writer James Robinson told USA Today.
Robinson, speaking with FOX's The Post, added that the re-introduction of Scott's character as a young man meant that the writers had to get rid of his son, Obsidian, who was a homosexual.
"So I thought, 'Why not make Alan Scott gay?'" Robinson recalled. "That was the seed that started it."
"I want to stress that Alan Scott is a gay man, but that's just a part of who he is. He's a businessman. He's a hero. He's a lot of different things. His sexuality is a part of him, but it isn't his defining trait," Robinson clarified to Entertainment Weekly.
