Singer-songwriter Jewel is in Atlanta shooting Ring of Fire, a biopic on June Carter Cash in which she plays the lead role. The "You Were Meant for Me" singer tweeted about it last week before leaving for the shoot.
"Five days until we move to Atlanta to film the June Carter Cash story."
Then Jewel commented on her preparation for the film, which included becoming familiar with one of June's trademark instruments: "Now on to the business of learning how tune my autoharp . . ."
The Lifetime biopic on the wife of Johnny Cash is based on the book Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait Of June Carter Cash by her son, John Carter Cash. Matt Ross will star as Johnny Cash. The focus of the film, of course, is on Johnny's wife, June.
"Many people know about the legendary love story of Johnny and June," said Lifetime's EVP Rob Sharenow. "But June Carter Cash has her own epic journey filled with triumphs, tragedies, loves and losses. This movie will explore all aspects of the woman behind the icon, and we're thrilled Jewel will be playing the title role."
June and Johnny were memorably portrayed by Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix in the 2005 movie about the couple, Walk the Line.
Ring of Fire marks the first time Jewel will have a lead role in a major film production.
