One person was killed and seven others were injured in a shooting in a shopping mall in the Canadian city of Toronto on Saturday.

Local media reported that a 25-year-old man was fatally shot at Toronto Eaton Center's food court. Condition of two of the injured, including a 13-year-old boy, was stated to be serious.

Police are on the look out of the shooter who fled after the incident. Police immediately evacuated and closed down the mall for several hours after the shooting.

Toronto police chief Bill Blair suspects it a targeted shooting in which bystanders were also hit. "The nature of the wounds indicate this individual was targeted," he said.

Although some witnesses said they saw a man with a gun, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford told reporters at the scene that it was not immediately clear if the shooter was a man or a woman.

Local press quoted several witnesses as saying that they heard a string of shots fired.
