Funkmaster Flex and Nicki Minaj argued back and forth for over an hour on a New York City radio station on Monday night after Minaj failed to show up to the Summer Jam concert the night before.
Minaj pulled out of the show after disc jockey Peter Rosenberg made a disparaging comment regarding the singer's song "Starship," which got back to Lil Wayne, the head of Minaj's label Young Money Entertainment. Wayne pulled Minaj from the bill along with all other Young Money acts because of the comment.
The comment that Rosenberg made allegedly referred to Minaj as a joke and questioned her credibility as a real hip-hop act. While arguing with Flex, Minaj repeatedly insisted that she is "not a joke," and that the insinuation was insulting to millions of her fans. She added that the crack made them feel "inferior for their personal tastes in music."
Flex shot back: "It is [Rosenberg's] opinion and what hip-hop is built on is opinion." To that, Minaj replied: "If you don't like me, don't book me."
After playing the full hour-long interview on the air Flex said: "I'm trying to figure out if we're better. We are."
Minaj said that she stands behind Lil Wayne's decision "1,000 percent," but that she will make up the missed show to her fans with a free show in New York City at a later date.
