Crossroads GPS, an independent group co-founded by Republican political strategist Karl Rove, launched an ad Tuesday attacking President Obama's handling of the nation's massive debt.
The organization spent $7 million on the new 30-second commercial titled "Stopwatch" that will air in 10 swing states and run for two weeks, according to a Crossroads GPS news release.
The commercial is part of the group's $25 million effort to focus the national debate on jobs, the economy, taxes and debt, according to the news release.
"Why isn't the economy stronger? In the seconds it takes to watch this, our national debt with increase $1.4 million," a narrator says at the start of the commercial.
The video goes on to say that Obama is adding $4 billion in debt every day and is borrowing from China to repay his spending.
The commercial ends with the narrator saying, "tell Obama: Stop the reckless spending. Cut the debt. Support the new majority agenda."
Crossroads GPS said in a release that the new majority agenda includes a plank on reducing the national debt.
"While Europe is in the throes of debt-fueled economic crisis, President Obama keeps spending and charging more on the nation's maxed-out credit cards," said Steven Law, president of Crossroads GPS. "We want to encourage a serious debate on the national debt that transcends President Obama's class-warfare tax hikes."
The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
