Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met in Beijing on Thursday and agreed to "vigorously pursue" the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project as well as supply of electricity to Pakistan, the state-run APP news agency reported.

Both the leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in the Chinese capital on Wednesday and Thursday.

Pak presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters that the two leaders also agreed to resolve urgently the issue of credit for the project so as to complete it expeditiously. Relevant Ministers and officials from both sides will now meet to further take forward the decisions taken in principle, he added.

Babar said a number of issues ranging from bilateral relations to regional security situation and various ways and means to further promote socio-economic development of the region with special reference to enhancing regional connectivity were also discussed during their meeting.
