U.K. new car registrations increased in May on sharp increase in demand from private buyers, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said Friday.
Car registrations rose 7.9 percent to 162,288 units in May. This was the strongest rate of growth since the scrappage-induced rise in June 2010.
Further, the May market was more than 6 percent and 9,000 units above SMMT's forecast for the month.
Registrations over the first five months of 2012 grew 2.6 percent to 868,166 units.
