OECD Unemployment Remains Stable

Unemployment in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) area has remained broadly unchanged during the past twelve months, latest data showed.

The jobless rate for April was 7.9 percent, which has remained broadly unchanged since January 2011. In April, there were around 47.3 million unemployed persons in the OECD area, down by 0.2 million compared to the same month last year.

In the Eurozone, the jobless rate remained unchanged at 11 percent in April, while in the European Union it moved up to 10.3 percent from 10.2 percent.

Unemployment in the U.S. decreased to 8.1 percent during the month from 8.2 percent in he previous month, while German jobless rate dropped to 5.4 percent from 5.5 percent. France recorded an unemployment rate of 10.2 percent during the month, slightly higher than March's 10.1 percent.

As much as 10.2 percent of Italy's labor force was unemployed in April, higher than 10.1 percent recorded in March.
