Bay Street stocks moved up at open Tuesday amid marginal buying across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 60.03 points or 0.53 percent to 11,461.81.
The Diversified Materials Index moved up nearly 1 percent, with First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) and Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) adding around 1 percent each.
In the oil patch, Coastal Energy (CEN.TO) and Petrominerales (PMG.TO) added over 2 percent each.
Among gold plays, Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) and Royal Gold (RGL.TO) were up nearly 1 percent each.
Fertilizer maker Agrium Inc. (AGU.TO) edged up 0.25 percent after said it expects first-half earnings to be near or at the top end of guidance range
Grain handler Viterra Inc. (VT.TO) inched up 0.20 percent after reporting a two-fold jump in its second quarter net income.
