Robbie Krieger recently sat down with Goldmine magazine to talk about the Doors sessions for their classic L.A. Woman, which got a re-release late last year.
He said that the band brought in Bruce Botnick to produce, a positive change from Paul A. Rothchild, who had produced their previous five albums:
"I think it was Bruce who had the idea of doing it at our rehearsal space rather than having to be under the gun of a big-money recording studio."
"Bruce wanted to make it as natural and comfortable as possible for us, and that really worked. We knew the sound of that place from rehearsing in it all the time, and Jim Morrison loved the sound he got in the bathroom, singing-wise," he added.
The reissue by Rhino Records includes tracks that were remastered for length or verse additions, and features two CDs with songs including "Love Her Madly," "Cars Hiss by My Window" and "My Country, 'Tis of Thee."
The set also includes a bonus disc with covers of Willie Dixon's "(You Need Meat) Don't Go No Further" and Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)."
