A service member of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in an IED (improvised explosive device) attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.
An ISAF press release did not reveal the nationality of the victims as per its policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.
With this, the number of foreign troops killed in Afghanistan this year rose to 198.
Meanwhile, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. James L. Terry assumed command of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force Joint Command (IJC) in Afghanistan from U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti.
The Haqqani network's top leaders still seek to re-establish some control in Afghanistan, but transition to Afghan-led security is proceeding well, Gen. Scaparrotti told Pentagon reporters on the day before leaving his post.
