California-based CB Foods Inc. is recalling about 55,757 pounds of pork dumpling products as it contained monosodium glutamate, a flavor enhancer that was not declared on the label. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the products subject to recall include 12.5-lb cases or trays of 'Pork Shaomai Dumpling' with a case code of 002. Each box has the establishment number 39932.
The products being recalled were produced from June 2011, to June 5, 2012, and were shipped to hotels and restaurants in California and Nevada.
The problem was identified during an assessment by Food Safety and Inspection Service personnel. According to the Agency, chicken powder, which was incorporated into the pork dumpling product contained monosodium glutamate or MSG. However, it was not listed as an ingredient on the pork dumpling product.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
