Max Page, the child actor who starred as Mini-Darth Vader in a Volkswagen commercial, will undergo heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart and replace a defective heart valve.

In the ad, which aired on Super Bowl Sunday, Max attempts to use the force of the Jedi to start his parent's car. When his parents see what he is doing, they start the car remotely, effectively promoting Volkswagen's remote starter.

Jennifer Page, Max's mom, speaking on the "Today" show, recounted the story of her telling him about the surgery:

"We told Max and Els [Max's brother] Sunday afternoon. Initially, Max was crying and repeating how scared how he was. We unpeeled the layers by asking what exactly he was afraid of and tackled each issue as he could verbalize it. Blood draws, spending the night in the hospital and hurting are the big three."

Max checks into Children's Hospital Los Angeles today (June 13).
