3 Doors Down and ZZ Topcanceled their scheduled performance in Atmore, Alabama on June 9 over concerns about the safety of the stage. The decision came after a series of stage accidents last summer killed fans in both the U.S. and Europe.
Reps for ZZ Top broke news of the cancellation in an official statement saying that it was a last resort:
"We're definitely from 'the show must go on' school but had to draw the line this time when we found out that numerous hazards were present at the venue."
"We couldn't, in good conscience, do the show knowing that the safety for those on and off stage would be in jeopardy," the statement said, adding that there was "significant risk of a potential stage collapse."
