Kroger Co. (KR: Quote) reported first quarter EPS of $0.78 Thursday morning, up from $0.70 in the prior year period. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.72. The company also increased its full year EPS guidance to between $2.33 and $2.40, from prior expectations of $2.28 to $2.38. The consensus estimate is for EPS of $2.32.
Kroger gapped open higher Thursday and climbed in early trade. The stock extended its gains going into the close and finished up by 1.29 at $22.58, with volume at a 9-month high. Kroger rebounded off of support at the lows of the year and set a 2-week high.
