Turkish Unemployment Rate Declines In March

Turkey's unemployment rate decreased from last year in March, data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Friday.

The unemployment rate dropped to 9.9 percent in March from 10.8 percent in the same month last year. The number of unemployed persons in the country dropped to around 2.62 million in March from about 2.82 million a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the employment rate edged up to 43.8 percent in March this year from 43.7 percent last year. The labor force participation rate was 48.6 percent during the month, down from 49 percent in March last year.

There were approximately 23.82 million employed persons in Turkey at the end of March, up from 23.29 million recorded a year earlier, data showed.
